Change Makers

Meet the people doing incredible things to shine a light on life with epilepsy

Miles Levin

Miles Levin is an award-winning writer/director and public speaker living with epilepsy. He first decided to pull from this experience when he worked at a camp for kids living with the condition. Horrified by the stigma they faced, and the inefficacy of most awareness efforts, he has used his creative film gifts to help speak out and educate. He believes this stigma comes largely from our exposure to movies and television that have trained audiences to fear people with epilepsy and his film, Under the Lights, is helping to change that. First released as a short, Under The Lights has won several film festival awards. Miles has used that as a springboard to develop the story into a full length feature film and travels the country speaking to audiences and raising awareness.

Aj Taylor

AJ Taylor was diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager in high school. He struggled through years of uncertainty and loneliness as frequent seizures left him feeling isolated. Then, being in a near-fatal car crash transformed his outlook on life. Now a passionate advocate for seizure-safe schools, Taylor worked tirelessly to champion new legislation in his home state of Georgia to make schools more accommodating to those with epilepsy. His work has paid off greatly. In 2023 Georgia passed AJ’s Law unanimously. In short, AJ’s Law requires Georgia public schools to both 1) IMPLEMENT seizure actions plans submitted by a student’s parent or guardian, and 2) TRAIN school staff on seizure action plans and seizure first-aid, among other requirements. AJ’s Law gives families confidence that students can attend school safely by ensuring public schools are equipped with the right information and training to accommodate students living with epilepsy.
